What a way to finish the league season. Two wins on Saturday, with the 1st XI chasing down 284 with only 1 wicket and 2 balls to spare whilst the 2nd XI thrashed Holyport by 8 wickets.
In the 1st XI game at Cadmore End, Jack Stemp won the toss and put the hosts in on a very green pitch. They progressed to 120 for 2, until Imran Tariq came on to bowl and promptly took a triple wicket maiden! That slowed them down but the opener Umar Ishtiaq was hitting the ball to all corners and was eventually last out for a magnificent 168. The target was 284 - tough but the outfield was lightning fast and the boundaries short.
The reply was anchored by 61 from Sri Bala, whilst Harry Reddy (56), Jack Stemp (77) and Jags Dhillon (31) all provided some quick runs. The chase was running out of steam until the last pair of Anil Mirza and Imran Tariq came together. They needed 35 from the last 3 overs, and having smashed 22 in the second last over, needed only 6 from the last - which was reached off the penultimate ball.
At the Green, Holyport started well and reached 105 - 3, before Sid Iyer pegged them back with great figures of 4 - 41. Ben Snapes also chipped in with 2 - 32. Youssef Arshad picked up 1 - 35. The chase was a breeze with openers scoring back to back half centuries. James Hemmings scored 61 and Chris Heyes 81, before Harry Wood (37) and Ben Savidge saw us home.
The results mean the 1st XI finished second in the Chilterns & Mid Bucks Premiership whilst the 2nd XI finished 5th in the Chilterns League 2nd Division.
Congratulations to all the League captains, vice captains and players. Promotion for the 1st XI is some achievement after a poor start to the season. A solid mid table finish for the 2nd XI in a tough league is praise worthy after last year's relegation.
Cricket at the club continues this week with our annual Junior end of season celebration with awards on Friday and Saturday. The Sunday Senior team has a trip to Stoke Green, before closing the season with two home matches.
