Knotty Undone

Steve Jinman18 Jul 2021 - 21:52

Pinkneys Green completed a double win over Knotty Green in their Chiltern League Matches on Saturday.

The 1st XI travelled to Buckinghamshire and had a dream start when Jags Dhillon dismissed both openers without a run being scored, in a tidy opening spell of 3-23. However the hosts went on to set a daunting target of 262, Rodney Charles top scoring with 133 as Knotty Green declared 9 wickets down.
Openers Uday Tikoo (73) and Vinay Mopur (80) made light work of the chase making an opening stand of 149. Chris Heyes (34*) then anchored the remainder of innings, Tegi Kaleka (19*) finishing the job with four overs to spare with four boundaries. The win keeps Pinkneys in 4th place in the CMB Premiership.
In contrast to the freescoring away match, runs came at a premium at Pinkneys (pictured), the 2nd XI defeating Knotty Green 3rd XI by 14 runs in a low scoring match. Batting first Pinkneys were bowled out for 127 but managed to whittle out the visitors for just 113. The win narrowed the gap to only one point between Pinkneys in 3rd and their opponents in 2nd place in the Chiltern League Division Two.
On Sunday a Charles Berger hat trick spearheaded a comfortable win at Sonning. Invited to field, Pinkneys picked up wickets regularly although their opponents piled on the runs at more than a run a ball. Slow bowling was very much the order of the day in stifling heat, and Berger cashed in with wickets either side of the drinks break to complete the hat trick, going onto take five wickets as Sonning crashed to 103 all out. In reply Pinkneys reached their target for the loss of only three wickets, helped by an opening stand of 52 between Kush Chandal (37) and James Hemmings (23*)
